My Organic Story - Sarah

Tonight on the blog we share with you the story of why Sarah first began eating organic and what it means to her and her family.
Sarah has been a weekly customer at The Organic Place for over four-and-a-half years now and like many others who have shared their story with us Sarah’s journey began for her health and wellness and her belief that God designed things perfectly before we started to muck things up.

Tell us a bit about yourself. . .

I’m a wife and mum of a teen and a tween, home educator, volunteer, and singer/songwriter.

My Organic Story - Sarah

When and why did you start to eat organic?

I first began eating organic when I had significant health issues, and my neighbour who was battling cancer talked to me about organic, so that was about twenty years ago.  When I had my first child and he had lots of allergies and intolerances, I became even more keen for my family to eat organic.  My second child was born much healthier!  Around this time I ran a food co-op with a large group of families who were interested in buying as much organic / farm-direct / etc. and I taught classes in my kitchen on traditional food methods (asa chapter leader of the Weston A Price Foundation) so it was a pretty big deal to me!

Why did you decide to start to eat organic?

I’ve basically started with an underlying belief that the earth and everything on it was designed perfectly for us by a God who knows us and loves us, and we’re the ones who mucked it up; and we can’t fix it without knowing God’s design which means learning and making different better choices.  How we feed ourselves (not just food, but what we feed our minds and surround ourselves with, in our home environment and our community) is really important to learn about.

What is one thing you wish more people understood about organic food?

Eating organic to me is just one way of loving myself and my family, living the way we’re supposed to.
