Tell us about Amazing Oils and how you got started
Amazing Oils are an Australian, family run business based in Queensland. Originally, a family of Yoga teachers, we founded Australia’s most popular Yoga school in 1994. It was 2012 when one of our family members was diagnosed with a serious illness that our focus dramatically changed. We devoted ourselves to endless hours of research and product testing and eventually discovered a natural solution that has amazing effects; magnesium.
After trialing sources from Northern Europe, USA and even Asia, we discovered that there was a natural source of Magnesium Oil right here in Australia. Surprisingly it contains no actual oil whatsoever but is an organically registered source of the highest purity available. With strict Australian regulations and constant monitoring Amazing Oils continues to provide incredible, unmatched quality. Our Magnesium Oil works quickly, leaves no residue on the skin and doesn’t irritate like other sources that were trialed.
After giving the finished product to over 4000+ yoga students, the response and demand was overwhelming. Within 12 months the business grew from the kitchen bench, to the garage, then to a small shared warehouse and then finally to our own large warehouse premises. What exactly is magnesium?
Magnesium is the 8th most common mineral in the Earth’s crust. It is important for humans but equally as important for animals and plants. In fact all of life on Earth is based around the Magnesium atom, the organising ion in Chlorophyl, which is responsible for the process of photosynthesis. Without Magnesium we would not be here at all!
Why do we need magnesium?
Maintaining healthy levels of magnesium in our bodies is vitally important for good health and wellbeing. It is required for more than 300 functions of the human body’s biochemistry. We need it for energy, brain function, DNA function, muscle and nerve function and blood glucose levels as well as the proper functioning of the heart. But unfortunately, the vast majority of us are not getting enough magnesium in our diets. The soils in many countries may be woefully deficient in Magnesium. Therefore it simply does not enter the food chain in adequate amounts for ongoing health. Any use of energy also uses large amounts of Magnesium which further depletes levels.
What are the benefits of magnesium?
Magnesium improves overall well being and provides a wide range of health benefits including but not limited to:

How much magnesium do we need?
Unfortunately there is no quick and simple answer to this as it really depends on the individual. Overall though, we feel it may be best to use common sense and your own symptomatic gauge. This means keeping an awareness of any symptoms that may point to a deficiency in your Magnesium levels. These symptoms can change from day to day, but it will give you a sense of what works for you and additionally will provide you with an increased awareness of your own body and mind. Do remember that it is almost impossible to overdose through the skin.
Normal blood tests can be ineffective in measuring magnesium levels due to the amount of Magnesium in your blood being generally less than 1%. Add to this the fact that your levels (in the blood) can go up and down dramatically within an hour. There are certain tests such as hair analysis and red blood cell RBC testing which will give a clear reading of your previous Magnesium levels if needed.
How often should I use my magnesium products?
We would LOVE to be able to give out brochures/leaflets with precise details on how often to use your products. The problem is…it depends. It depends on your magnesium levels, on your bio-chemistry, on whatever drugs you may be taking and on your stress-levels. Just remember, your body NEEDS magnesium every day, for every heart beat, for every movement and every thought. Use it daily – keep it next to your toothbrush – or at least use it every night on the tops of your feet. This will keep your health ‘topped-up’ as well as preventing aches, pains and fatigue. It’s important to note that coffee, sugar, alcohol and exercise can all lessen magnesium uptake in your body.
Why should I put magnesium on my skin instead of in my mouth?
High doses of magnesium taken orally may become problematic for the GI tract. Basically, they can upset your digestive system causing nausea and diarrhoea. Oral supplementation can be inefficient when compared to trans-dermal (topical) application. Using oral supplements which contain magnesium oxide means absorption can be as low as 4%! That’s 96% wastage!
